Competency Program Manager is a member of the Distributor Channel Management (DCM) team who manages skills development for Medtronic Distributors in the Central & Eastern Europe, Middle East & Africa Region (CEMA) region. The main purpose of the role is to transform Distributors’ sales teams to Medtronic standards through targeted training and development programs and initiatives.

A Day in the Life

Responsibilities may include the following and other duties may be assigned.
  • Partner with the CEMA Business Leaders and sub-regional Heads to ensure proper management of existing distributor channels including salesforce development
  • Analyze and define distributor salesforce training needs
  • Develop and implement effective training & development programs for the distributor salesforce in areas such as account planning, selling, negotiation & presentation skills, and others
  • Design and implement clear evaluation criteria for salesforce performance
  • Develop reports and analysis about improvement in distributor salesforce individual performance after training
  • Study distributor structure, advise on suitable reorganization if needed and assure right implementation
  • Advise on commercial model enhancements to improve customer satisfaction and sales potential
  • Partner to define the training needs analysis for distributor salesforce to aid in the distributor consolidation and go-direct initiatives
  • Partner with the CEMA Business Leaders and sub-regional Heads to set short- and long-term development pathways for sales reps, including ensuring that product training is delivered uniformly & consistently


Key working relationships include, but are not limited to the following:

  • Distributor Channel Management team CEMA
  • Commercial Operations team CEMA, especially Sales Training & Commercial Excellence
  • Regional Business Leaders, sub-regional Heads and their teams
  • Commercially astute, strong understanding of the business in the region
  • Excellent knowledge of selling skills & key account planning
  • Training design & delivery
  • Facilitation
  • Coaching
  • Excellent verbal and written communicator, excellent presentation skills
  • Excellent interpersonal skills with good cultural sensitivity
  • Strong analytical skills, including training needs analysis
  • Strong compliance orientation
  • Strong written and verbal communication and presentation skills in English. Additionally, Arabic, French and/or Russian as an advantage
  • Minimum of 5 years of experience in Sales and/or Sales Force Effectiveness
  • Minimum of 2 years of experience in Medical Devices, Healthcare or Pharmaceutical industry
  • Regional experience desirable
  • Experience from working in a matrix structure
  • Comfortable with extensive travel (around 50%)
  • Business or Healthcare related (medical or scientific) degree or equivalent
